Editorial policy

Everything on this site is written in house. There is no syndicated content, no spun product copy and no articles bought by the word.

Product descriptions

There are 975 products in this catalogue, and it would be dishonest to imply that each description was composed from scratch by a person who had held the object. What each description is composed from is the checkable facts for that specific product: its category, its pack size, its price per piece, and the material and properties its own specification declares.

The rule that keeps this honest is that a property is only printed where that product states it, and only where the statement is not a negation. "Not dishwasher safe" is a different sentence from "dishwasher safe", and a description built from a shared vocabulary rather than from the specific text is exactly how the first becomes the second.

Sourcing

Where a page makes a factual claim about a rule, a standard or food safety, it cites the agency, links the page, and gives the date we read it. Sources are opened and read before the sentence citing them is written, rather than found afterwards to prop up a sentence we had already decided on.

Claims we do not make

No product here treats, prevents or cures anything. We do not use "medical grade", "hypoallergenic" or "eco friendly" as decoration, and where a phrase has a legal meaning, as with food contact authorisation, we explain the meaning rather than borrowing the authority of the words.

Ratings

Ratings are printed as they stand, on the products we hold confirmed figures for. A product with a three point something average keeps it. Where we hold no figure, the page says the product is not rated yet rather than leaving a blank that reads as praise.

Photographs

Product photography is ours and shows the thing being sold. A frame with a marketing headline printed across the picture stays in our advertising rather than going on a product page: a product page should show the product, not a slogan.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us at hello@patelai.net. We correct the page and, where the error changed the meaning of a recommendation, we say what changed rather than editing quietly.
